What Are Mood Foods?

Did you know that we as humans are equipped with a built-in pharmacy? Its always open, and free of charge! Are there foods that we could consume that could help our moods?


We should think of your brain like a giant grocery store, stacked with every ingredient imaginable. Our brains are surrounded with molecules known as neuropeptides. It is really just a chain of proteins that are tiny chemical messengers transporting information at lightning speed through the body and brain. We want lots of feel-good neural pathways.

Let's look at the 3 main neurotransmitters; serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine.

Serotonin, is like pure sunshine! It brightens our mood, strengthens our immune system, regulates sleep and appetite. Dopamine combats restlessness/addictions, allows us to be more content with simple pleasures in life. It also keeps us feeling focused and motivated. Norepinephrine can calm anxiety and anger. It can keep our emotions in balance, and help us self regulate.
