Treating yourself to a home facial is a luxury you can and should give yourself. Dry air plays havoc on our skin - A facial can nourish, heal and relax you!

What is a facial?

A facial is a multi-step skin treatment that typically includes cleansing, exfoliating, steaming, mask and moisturizer that helps promote a clear, well-hydrated complexion.

Step 1: Start with a cleanse

With any type of facial, the first step should always be to cleanse in order to prep the skin

A. Remove makeup with your favourite remover.

B. Then use a foam or cream cleanser depending on your preference or skin type. Massage well in upward strokes.

C. Rinse using a warm washcloth.

Step 2: Exfoliate

After cleansing, you should exfoliate, or slough off the top layer of skin cells and excess oils in order to ensure that the ingredients in your favourite products penetrate. Use a gentle scrub best for your skin type

Step 3: Steam

Fill a bowl with hot water and position your face over the bowl with a towel over your head to let your skin open up. You don’t need a fancy at-home device in order to reap the benefits of steaming. If you have a hot tub, you can sit in it for 10 minutes for the same effect.

Step 4: Mask

Choose your face mask based on whatever current issues your skin is facing. If it is oily and prone to breakouts, reach for one that is clay-based or contains vitamin C. Conversely, if it feels parched or generally dry, use a face mask that is formulated to replenish hydration;

Step 5: Moisturize

After removing your face mask of choice, it's time to layer on your favourite serums and moisturizers — with the overall goal being hydration.
