Here’s the list of my TOP TEN favorite Creator and Writer self-care activities. My list gives you a sneak peek into what personally lights up my mind, body and spirit. Remember, self-care is a personal thing. Keep reading to find out why I had to list ELEVEN and find a free promo code to my next Virtual Event!
1. I write ‘morning pages’. This idea is from one of my favorite books, The Artist's Way - A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity’ by Julia Cameron. I highly recommend this book if you are looking to get in touch with your creative energy. Unconscious writing is a great way to clear any unwanted junk mail in your mind. Julia also suggests taking yourself out on ‘artist date’. In her book she explains it’s a ‘block of time’ allocated to ‘nurturing your creative consciousness’. I put going to outdoor day spas in this category!
2. I light beeswax tealight candles on a regular basis. Here’s the best explanation I found from a beeswax expert:
“Negative ions are molecules with an extra electron, which are naturally found in nature, especially in places with moving water like waterfalls, rivers, and the ocean. These ions are known to improve mood, reduce stress, and even alleviate symptoms of depression and seasonal affective disorder. Negative ions also have the ability to attach to positive ions, which are often pollutants like dust, pollen, and bacteria.” Source: BeeswaxPat
I had no idea about the mental wellness of beeswax - but from my personal experience, I'd have to agree. I thought it was just the flame that made me feel more focused and connected to my creator. I knew my Grade 9 science lesson would come in handy one day!
3. I appreciate all my experiences. Positive or negative…all my experiences matter. One of my favorite sayings is, ‘It’s not happening to me, it's happening for me’. When I create with my mind and my heart everything always becomes clearer.
4. I stay purposely organized. I have a lot of moving parts and taking a ½ day, once a week, to organize my surroundings and go over my schedule keeps my mind clear. My organizing time also includes deleting (and blocking) emails. I usually pair this with a listen from my Headway App. This App gives my creative mind ‘refreshers’ by summarizing popular self-care books.
5. I watch historical documentaries. Learning for me is self-care, zone-out time and feeds my creator. I recently watched a docu-series on Cuba before posting my latest podcast, Nurturing Your Luck based off of Ernest Hemingway’s Novelette, The Old Man and The Sea. My theme is based on the character Santiago and his relationship with luck. The original 1958 screenplay was a fabulous watch as Hemingway is a major character in the adaptation. Introducing the writer into the screenplay is so clever! Watch and listen to Nurturing Your Luck Subscribe to youtube.com/@ginnyconnon for more Nurturing Workplace Resets.
6. I avoid processed sugar. Nothing gives me brain fog more than eating sugar. Nothing. I stick to natural sugars 95% of the time. Days of eating scoops of rainbow sorbet are no longer. There is nothing worse for my creative mind than a sugar ‘hangover’. Shout-out to FarmBoy Ginger Butter Cookies that make the perfect cookie-craving moment delightful!
7. I apply good quality lemon and peppermint essential oil to my wrist and back of my neck. One of my favorite sayings is, ‘lemons add life’! I learned this on a cooking show years ago and applied it to my self-care regime. Find scents that make you feel ‘ uplifting’ and ‘awake’ to give your creator a dose of self-care. I also learned these are both ancient practices for energetic safe-guarding. I must have learned it in a past life!
8. I do walking meditations. I understand these are two very contradicting words, so I’m briefly breaking down my process here. For myself, walking meditations are acutely connected to nature. A flower, tree, roots on the land, a rock - whatever I am drawn to focus on. I also do energetic sways on my walks. Much like unconscious writing, this is a verbal and physical way of releasing any old limited beliefs not serving me. I replace these with a positive thought to balance out my vibes! I also shoot the videos for my YouTube Channel on these excursions. It’s important to pay attention when walking - so I’m mindful of when and where I meditate on my walks!
9. I use the frequencies of my crystal and mineral collection. These ‘rocks’ are not just decorations in my home. My largest crystals are Diamond Apophyllite and Smoky Quartz and Himalayan Quartz. I keep the Smoky Quartz by my modem to filter out those EMT’s. I cleanse them often, usually running water, sunlight or moonlight. I also cleanse them in the waters of northern Ontario, my favorite self-care excursions! I wear different crystal ‘balancer’ bracelets depending on what energy I want to create. For example, I’ll wear Red Carnelian if I want new ideas for my Workplace Reset Podcast or Blue Spot Jasper when I want a calm focus to write.
I pair these with Larkivite, which has an amazing vibration to aid in transforming creativity and cognitive function.
10. I follow the Moon. I was called to follow lunar cycles more closely when I noticed how intuitively I was already connecting to her. I set intentions on the New Moon, acknowledge ‘gratitude’ on the quarter Moon and release anything not serving my intentions/manifestations on the Full Moon. She is my astrological ruling planet and the reason my Brand is called ‘Nurturing’. Pay attention to what naturally lights you up in your self-care when it comes to creating anything in your life! I have combined my love for my crystals and the Moon creating the “Nurture-Scope”. When Crystals meet the Moon. A monthly scope on what crystals benefit a lunar phase. I highlight different Moon phases that I am intuitively drawn to write about. My favorite kind of Moons are Super Moons, however all phases are equally important!
11. I couldn’t leave out one of my favorite self-care activities coming to number 11! I read my Angel Cards. I have been doing this practice for over 30 years. I did Angel Card readings for attendees when I first started doing in-person events. Simply put, as you ground yourself and imagine, feel or envision ‘light’, you shuffle the deck of cards and ask your guides for a message.

Each card has a specific message that usually lines up with your question or present happenings. It was very comforting to find out most of the world believes in Angel Guides! I connect to Angelic energy very easily and have moved my Coaching and Energy events online to share my expertise with a broader audience. I call it my Live, Love & Laugh Tour. This was on a necklace I was given as a young girl and I’ve added the Tour. My Angel Guides agree, I’m ready for it! Use the promo code NURTURE for a free ticket to my weekly event. It’s an evening of fun, energetic convo and comedy - all about bringing in fun vibes and laughter. Laughter is my favorite self-care medicine! When I was certified as a Relationship Coach I had no idea I’d be coaching on this level. Whether you pull a card, notice a sign or have a heartfelt conversation - know that connecting with your Angel and Spirit guides is a beautiful addition to your holistic self-care and a gateway to create from our Creator.
