Just say YEBO in 2023!

Who We Are

For those of you who are new to Heart for Africa (Canada), we are a humanitarian organization that is committed to bringing HOPE to the Kingdom of Eswatini, Africa.

Our focus is on four key areas: Hunger, Orphans, Poverty, and Education. Our goal is to make a difference in the lives of those in need and to see communities transformed for the better. Our word for 2023 is "yebo," which means "yes" in Siswati. We will continue saying yebo to our mission of HOPE and encourage you to JUST SAY YEBO with us!

We wanted to share with you the successes from 2022 and give you a glimpse of what to expect in 2023! Join us as we celebrate the lives that have been changed and look forward to what the future holds.

Successes in 2022

2022 was a big year for Heart for Africa (Canada)! Let's take a closer look at each of our initiatives and the impact they've had on the lives of those we serve in Eswatini.

  • Through our Hunger Initiative, we were able to feed 4,500 children in the most rural communities and saw reduced levels of malnutrition.

  • Our Orphans Initiative saw an influx of abandoned babies in need of a safe place to call home. In total, we received 45 new babies and are now caring for 359 children (to-date) under the age of 12.

  • Our Poverty Initiative saw a 40% increase in employment, bringing us to 450 local Swazi's employed at Project Canaan.

  • Through our Education Initiative, 244 of our school-aged children attended Project Canaan Academy. 75% of our students improved in MAP testing and 100% were promoted to the next grade level!

These successes in 2022 are just the beginning, and we are excited and filled with hope to see what 2023 will bring.

What to Expect in 2023

In 2023, we expect to receive a new baby every 9 days on average, meaning we can expect to receive 40+ new babies. In previous years we received a new baby every 11 days, but since COVID-19 we have seen a spike in new babies needing a safe place to go. Our Orphans Initiative is a crucial part of our work and we are committed to providing these precious little ones with a safe and loving home until they reach adulthood.

We have 262 children enrolled at Project Canaan Academy this year. Our Education Initiative is vital in providing children in Eswatini with a quality education and we are thrilled to increase our impact through education in 2023. We look forward to raising funds for our Grade 7 classrooms this year, which will complete our Primary School!

We had a successful year in 2022 with significant progress in fighting hunger, caring for orphans, alleviating poverty and providing education in Eswatini. We are optimistic and excited for 2023 and would love for you to join us in making a difference this year!

Together, we can bring hope to Eswatini and make a lasting impact on the lives of so many. We can't wait to see all that 2023 holds and we hope you will join us on this journey!
