A grounding exercise
How do you feel when you are in a situation that brings up some discomfort or anxiety? (Like the holidays, new job, doing something new, being vulnerable)
It usually makes me feel untethered, like I am floating away from my body, all wrapped up in my mind and on a spiral into gloom. I forget that in this moment, I am actually warm and safe. I LOVE this exercise / technique. "Feel into your hands" (and body) is a delightful and surprisingly simple way to bring myself back down into my body and the present. I invite you to play along, with curiosity and playfulness to observe and explore. When was the last time that you focused / actually felt a part of your body? I use this exercise during my daily meditation practice and to settle and ground myself in my body before coaching calls. It's simple, fun and so powerful. It took me a long time to feel my hands in the beginning, and that's totally okay. If that's you, just keep trying without pressuring yourself. Just be curious without judgement. Once you can feel your hands, play around and see if you can pick up on sensations in other parts of your body. Feel them separately, and then all at the same time, try shooting energy up and down your spine, or throwing an energy ball back and forth!
